Grade 7 Inquiry

Many grade 7s have been investigating and building their awareness of environmental issues over the past few months during library research sessions with Mrs Yearwood.  Their task is 2 part:  to create a 30s PSA and an an informative web page.  Below is an example of a webpage and the rubric we will use to mark.

Great Books for 2011

Thanks to the generous support of Stirling’s local bookstore ‘West Wings’, parents, students and community members our Christmas Book Fair was a huge success. Our SSPS Library was able to purchase many new books for our students and we look forward to continued partnerships in the future! Attached is a ‘New Year Bookmark’ to inspire our students to enjoy one of our new books in 2011!

Looking for a New Year’s Challenge? The Ontario Library Association has released their annual book selections for the ‘Forest of Reading’ Student Reading Challenge.  ‘Forest of Reading’ asks students across Ontario to read 5 of the 10 selections in Red Maple (gr 7-9) or Silver Birch (gr4-6) and vote on their favourite Canadian book for 2011.  Winners will be choosen by our students!  We have created a Voice Thread to track the journey many students have already begun. You can find it under Yearwood’s Yarn  under the Blog tab or with link below:
