During the last few weeks, storm sewers and drainage pipes were laid at the site. At the same time, bricklaying continued on the second floor of the school, and you can see the windows taking shape as the walls rise.
There are also windows on the second floor that will allow light to get into the gym from high above.
Various trades are at work in the lower floor of the school, installing electrical and mechanical elements such as ductwork for the heating systems

The Food for Learning program provides snacks for students who don’t have enough food in their lunch. SPJS is proud to be a part of that program. We are happy to be able to offer extra snack items to students who don’t have quite enough food in their lunches from time to time. We do, however, ask that parents check their child’s lunch to be sure that enough food is being provided for two nutrition breaks. And we want to remind parents & students that snacks are only available to those students who do not have enough food to eat, not those students who just don’t like what’s in their lunch.

Have you seen what’s happening on the yard at the Senior School? Construction has started on the new school. It’s taking shape quickly and we are so excited to see the progress. The footings will be poured during September and underground plumbing work will begin in October. Ms. Wand is involved in bi-weekly meetings with school board officials and the construction company. She is there to represent the interests of our school community and keep informed of the progress being made. The new school will be ready for September 2013. It seems a long way off but we know it will be here in no time.

Child Pick-Up at the End of the Day |
|
Please note that our school day ends at 3:40, which means that instruction usually goes on until this time. If you are planning to pick up your child early, please let the office know and we will endeavour to have your child called from class. At no time should parents just proceed to classrooms to pick up children near the end of the day — for all students’ safety, please remain in the foyer of the school until the dismissal bell rings. Also, if you arrive after 3:30 to pick up your child, we ask you to wait until 3:40 to expect your child at the office for pick-up.

Sign in for Student Safety |
|
All doors are locked during school hours. All parents and visitors to the school are reminded to use the front doors when entering the school at any time. Also, following Board policy, all visitors to the school must sign in at the main office and wear a visitor tag. This helps all of us to recognize visitors in the school and ensure student safety. As the secretaries are often very busy, please be patient if you ring and the door doesn’t open right away — we do want you to visit.
