Welcome to Stirling Junior and Primary School

Stirling Primary & Junior School is a twinned school, with the sites located one block apart in the village of Stirling. The school serves approximately 450 students from the surrounding area. The primary building hosts students in junior Kindergarten, senior Kindergarten and grade one. The junior building hosts students in grades two to five.
Both schools have gymnasiums, spacious play yards, well-equipped classrooms with computers and a growing number of SmartBoards, access to a computer lab, and both sites are wheelchair accessible. A safe learning environment is provided with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Ongoing, open communication between home, school and the community encourages parents to take an active partnership in our students’ education. Celebrations of learning are evident in family literacy nights, participation in arts events, festive activities, and active, hands-on learning experiences throughout the school year. Character development activities include our monthly Celebration Assemblies, and an emphasis across the school on being respectful, responsible, caring citizens within the school community. Stirling Primary Junior School is also a proud supporter of the Terry Fox Run, fundraisers for playground equipment to support active students, and Christmas Sharing.
Stirling Primary Junior School provides opportunities to foster success for all students to achieve their personal best in academics, the arts, sports and citizenship. At SPJS, we firmly believe that together, we make a difference.
After grade five, students proceed to Stirling Senior Public School for grades six to eight.

Book Fair - Spring 2012

Help promote reading at SPJS!

We will be having Scholastic Book Fairs during Education Week at both the Primary and Junior buildings. From Tuesday May 8th until Thursday May 10th come visit us in the library at either building during the day to view and purchase books.

We will be open later on Thurs. May 10th until 6 p.m. (Both buildings). As usual we will have our contest draw for $50 in Book Fair books for one lucky winner and his/her classroom to split. (Ballot found on the Book Fair flyer handed out to students the week before the fair), This year for any purchase over $25 Scholastic is offering a free kitten (stuffed).

All profits go towards purchasing new books for the library. Did you know that for every $10 you spend at the Fair $5 goes directly back to our school? . In supporting the book fair you are helping to support literacy at Stirling Primary Junior School.

Stirling Primary Junior Council

The SPJS School Council met on April 19th and a number of items were discussed.  One item of discussion was the application for PRO grants from the Ministry of Education (grants that are given to help build the school/parent community connection) – several ideas were brought forward and school council will go over these at the next meeting.  In addition, given that enough funds have been raised for an AED, school council will go ahead and seek Board input as to next steps.  Discussion was also had about Jump Rope for Heart, as well as the safety of students at dismissal time in the primary building.  Members were updated on events at the school and agreed to a change in date for the next meeting:  because of Fun Fair on May 24th, when the meeting had been scheduled, the next school council meeting will take place in the primary building on May 31st at 6:30.  As always, all parents are welcome to join us then, and babysitting is provided.  We hope you are able to join us!

Big Crunch Friday

Our goal is to have our students eat more “whole fruits and vegetables” during their nutrition breaks at school. To get the word out, we are asking all students to bring an extra whole fruit or vegetable in their lunches every Friday until the end of the year. All students will “crunch”  at the same time on Fridays and then participate in a physical activity for 20 minutes.

Don’t forget to bring your extra fruit or vegetable to CRUNCH on Friday!

Choir Brings Home Gold

Great news to share! Three of our choirs sang at the Stirling Festival of Sacred Praise on Monday, April 23rd...and they won three gold medals, first place standings with marks of 86, 86, and 89! The choir receiving the highest mark, the Grade 2-5 choir, will be singing at the Festival's "Stars of the Festival" night on Friday, May 11. Everyone is welcome to attend this night of music and praise which starts at 7:00 at St. Paul's United Church, right next door to the junior building. If you'd like to attend, please note there is a small admission fee at the door. Again, congratulations to all three choirs - great job!
