Welcome to Sir Mackenzie Bowell

Sir Mackenzie Bowell Public School, located in the residential west end of Belleville, near Centennial Secondary School, serves approximately 180 students in Grade 6, 7 and 8. Students from Prince Charles Public School enter at Grade 6 and students from Sir John A. Macdonald Public School enter at Grade 7.  This school features two self-contained Special Education classes and is also the host elementary school for the Quinte Ballet School of Canada.

Sir Mackenzie Bowell PS offers a safe and caring school environment in which students are provided with numerous opportunities to realize and achieve their potential for success.  The school focuses on the shared common values of respect and responsibility and has collaboratively established school-wide Respect Agreements which outline the respectful ways all members of the school community agree to interact, communicate, make decisions, and go about their daily activities.  As a Healthy Active School Community, the school promotes regular physical activity and healthy living through our sports teams, intramurals, and special events. Sir Mackenzie Bowell PS takes pride in its high quality academic, athletic, and arts programs, its variety of student leadership opportunities, and its ongoing involvement with the environmental education partnership, EarthCARE.

Students proceed to Centennial Secondary School for Grades 9 to 12.

Celebrating Sir Mackenzie Bowell Public School

You would not recognize this building today! What is happening to every school this week, a good summer cleaning, is happening here at SMB. Nothing is where we left it. Shortly, things will be back in their place.  As the administrative assistants finish the year end tasks, the custodail staff is busy cleaning and organizing and a teacher or two drops in to wrap things up. The halls are quiet.  This is the last offiicial task I will be doing at Sir Mackenzie Bowell Public School.  However, it is an important one.  Our last electronic communication with our wider community.  We wanted to share the final SMB slide show that was presented here at SMB during our spring open house.  In it, we examine THEN and NOW. Perhaps it will serve as a spring board for some of your own memories.  The school will open it's doors and welcome in students for the fall of 2012 - but not as SMB. Students will be moving to their new school shortly - once the incredible renovations are complete.

Bear Feet and PJs

altToday was a special School Spirit Day at SMB, with students and teachers sporting their most comfortable PJs and slippers. While bare feet were not permitted (students must wear footwear at all times for safety reasons), there were a few instances of bear feet.

Participation in the spirit day was very high, with a combined total for students and staff of 80% participation! Well done SMB students and staff!
