School Council Feb. 9 postponed to March 9 |
All parents are invited to participate in School Council. A quorum of elected members are required to make funding decisions and/or recommendations to the principal. For December and January meetings, we appreciate the small number of parents that did attend; however, we did not have a quorum of elected members to proceed with business. Due to scheduling conflicts for elected members, the Feb. 9 meeting was postponed to March 9.
We hope to have enough members attend March 9 to approve funding for reading materials and to plan together with enough parent volunteers to support special events for our students and our school community. All parents are invited to join us.
Other agenda items include:
- School Improvement Plan for 2010 - Reading, Writing, Numeracy, Pathways, Community & Culture
- Reading materials for grade 7 & 8 to support success now and in grade 9
- Safe School Update for Term 2 - focus areas
- How Can We Help You?
- Family Night planning: skate, swim, activity nights, other?
- How can the school support our school community? We need your input.
If you need child care, contact the office by March 8 so we can make arrangements for you; otherwise, we will not ask older students to come for to the school (if there is no need). All parents are welcome.

Character Education in February "Cooperation" |
|
The results are in and the winning house for the month of January is the Leopards! Congratulations. The Cougars placed second followed closely by the Cheetahs and Bobcats who were tied for third place.
The character attribute for February is Cooperation: We work as a team for a common goal. We value the opinion of others and show a willingness to work together towards a common goal.
Our House Day activities on Feb. 17 will focus on teamwork with an Olympic theme. Character homework will be sent home related to cooperation.
Tiger Tickets continue to be an important part of our character education program as students are recognized for committing kind, caring and respectful deeds throughout the school.
We will be having two spirit days during the month of February. February 12th is Red, White and Pink Day and February 24th will be Sunny South Day.
The Terrific Kids/Starfish Assembly is Friday, Feb. 26 at 8:30 a.m. All parents are welcome to join us.
Let's continue to work together to create a community of caring and respect. |

Information about H1N1 and flu-like symptoms: |
Take the following routine steps to protect your health
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you are unwell, stay home from school or work to prevent spreading illness. Consult with your health care provider if you are concerned about your symptoms.
Individuals should contact a medical practitioner upon the first signs of flu-like symptoms such as: high fever, cough, headache, sore throat, muscle and joint pain, or shortness of breath.
