Back by popular demand, Prince of Wales will be offering a chance for students to recycle old books and trade them in for a used one at the Caring Community Celebration.

Please bring in used books in good condition to the school before the celebration. Students will receive a ticket for each book they bring in, which they can use at the celebration to trade for a "new" used book. |
This is a reminder to parents that our photo day will be:
Monday October 19, 2009 for students in JK/Sk to grades 4/5.
Tuesday October 20, 2009 for the alternate JK/SK group plus students in grades 5/6 to grade 8.
Students will bring home a order form for ordering pictures. If you want to order photos, please sign and return the form before picture day.

We will celebrate things we CARE about, such as Literacy Achievement, Safe Schools, Inclusion, Environmental Awareness, Healthy Active Living, Community Relationships and Open Communication. Throughout the evening you will have opportunities to chat with staff and students about literacy learning, initiatives and specialized programs that are occurring at Prince of Wales. Your attendance and active participation in the evening’s events will provide you with a better understanding about our goals and actions for continued student success; academically and socially. We look forward to speaking with you! A brochure will be sent home in the near future! If you are able to volunteer please contact the school.
All Prince of Wales students and families are welcome, please come and celebrate!

April Safe School’s Committee Updates |
• Safety Vests - all yard supervisors are now wearing safety vests for easy visibility.
• Restorative Justice Questions- all staff will be trained to use common language to address concerns with and between students (e.g., What happened? Who was affected by what was done? In what way? What was done to make things right?).
• Peacemakers - our Child and Youth Counselor trained students on March 26th. On April 16th, Peacemakers will start on the primary playground to help students solve concerns through the use of common questions. They will NOT replace staff supervisors!
• Recess Revival - to lead and encourage physical activity on the yard, our co-op students and some intermediate students, will receive training from Jennifer Ronan from the Health Unit. Jennifer will teach students about games and activities to do with students at
recess. She will also address some listening and conflict resolution activities that will further support Prince of Wales as a caring community.
