Cooperative Education
The Co-operative Education Program links an in-school subject with a workplace experience. Participants will have the opportunity to apply  knowledge gained in class to the workplace.  Co-op placements are one half a day, five days per week for an entire semester and, if at least 220 hours are accumulated, two credits could be earned. There is also the possibility of a four-credit co-op and participation in an Ontario Youth Apprenticeship (OYAP) Co-Op placement, contact the co-op office for more information.

Co-operative education students have the opportunity to:

  • participate in the world of work
  • investigate potential career choices
  • make decisions about their education and careers
  • develop employment skills
  • develop self-confidence.

Success in co-operative education requires regular attendance at the co-op placement. If you are entering your third, fourth, or fifth year, you are eligible to apply for a Co-operative Education placement. When selecting Co-operative Education, be sure to select six additional credits for a total of eight. In order to be accepted, you will need to complete an application form, and you will be interviewed. If you are accepted, it is important that you have clear ideas about where, or in which field of endeavour you would like to work. You can discuss and arrange a Co-operative Education placement with your teacher/monitor, a potential co-op employer and teachers of the related in-school subject. You must have reliable classroom attendance to be considered for this program.
