The Model United Nations is a board-wide activity which provides students with the opportunity to research, debate and examine solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues. Teams of students, typically comprising two students each, are assigned a specific nation to study. Students are then provided an opportunity to research their nation’s position regarding a specific world issue.
Each team writes a one-page position paper, writes a speech to be delivered to the Model U.N., and prepares possible solutions, written as resolutions, to the issue for the consideration of all participating nations. Topics have included: world poverty, global migration, global warming, and AIDS. If you are interested in researching the issues with which the world is struggling, investigating solutions, and debating these issues with fellow students from across our school board, then consider becoming a member of this year’s Model United Nations.
