Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement (AP) is an exciting opportunity for students to challenge themselves to a rigorous academic experience. This opportunity is available to students who consider themselves highly motivated and interested in specific areas of study.
The AP courses are offered within the regular subject (ie ENG3UAP students would be part of the ENG3U class) but students would need to do supplemental work to prepare for the AP examinations. Students may choose at the time of the examinations to have their mark sent or not to the post-secondary schools of their choice. There is a fee to write the AP examinations.
Students who are considering Advanced Placement should consult with their subject teachers and Mrs McKay in order to plan their AP experience. The following credits will be available in the 2007-2008 school year:
Benefits for Students
- Advanced Placement provides an opportunity to receive university credits for courses taken in high school
- Advanced Placement develops the analytical and study skills required to succeed in university courses
- Advanced Placement motivates students to undertake more challenging work in both high school and university
