Safe, Caring, Respectful and Inclusive Environments

In safe, caring, and respectful learning environments, students develop a foundation of good character. With a focus on the HPEDSB “Growing with Character” character attributes of Caring, Co-operation, Respect, Responsibility, Humour, Honesty, Integrity, and Trustworthiness, students of North Trenton and Queen Elizabeth Public Schools are provided with learning opportunities that promote their social and emotional learning.  Both schools share a common focus on the value of "Respect" and have worked collaboratively to establish school wide "Respect Agreements" which outline the respectful ways all members of the school community agree to interact, communicate, make decisions, and go about their daily activities.  Student engagement in learning is a top priority.  In our safe, caring, and respectful school communities, students are provided with programs, activities, and opportunities to match their needs and interests which allows them to excel and achieve success as learners in the 21st century.

At North Trenton and Queen Elizabeth Public Schools, here are just a few of the ways we develop and promote our safe, caring and respectful learning environments:

  •  Establishment of school and Classroom “RESPECT Agreements which are developed and implemented consistently school-wide.  We celebrate our successes through Respect & Responsibility Tickets, Draws, Bulletin Board displays, Celebration Assemblies, Class and Student presentations, etc.

  • Recognizing individual students who have demonstrated exemplary respectful and responsible behavior at our monthly Kiwanis Terrific Kids assemblies.  Each month, we focus on a specific HPEDSB “Growing with CharacterCharacter Attribute along with our school’s “RESPECT Agreements”.

  • Inviting all students and staff to take our School-Wide Anti-Bullying Pledge by signing posters displayed in classrooms.

  • Each class establishing their own individual  “Safe, Caring, & Respectful” Class Motto

  • A Poster Contest for each division promoting acceptance (Primary – “Stand Up – Be a Friend”; Junior – “Stand Up for Friends”; Intermediate – “Love is Louder”).  Winning Posters will be made into a 2012-2013 “Stand Up to Bullying” QET/NT Calendar.

  • Use of “Kelso’s Choices” for Primary students and “Restorative Practices” for Junior and Intermediate divisions to support student learning.

  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters partnership  providing  the following programs for some students : Peer Mentoring, ‘Go Girls’, ‘Game On’, and ‘Kick Stand Kidz

  • Bullying Awareness/Information Session for Parents/Guardians, students and staff  with CYC, Eva Violi & CYC Supervisor, Julie Pohlman-Brogee

  • Cyber Bullying Presentation for Junior & Intermediate divisions with Quinte West - OPP Constable Dave Snider, School Response Officer

Healthy Active School Communities is a program that several local schools are participating in to improve student health and learning.

Our School is working to become a healthy active school community! This means the entire school community- students , staff, parents and community partners are working together to make our school an even better place to learn , work and play. We are focusing on physical activity – trying to increase opportunities for our students, staff and families to be active.
