Madoc Township Public School is a rural school located north of the village of Madoc, on Public School road, off Highway 62, serving 130 students from JK to grade 6, including a Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program. The school is surrounded by fields, farms and wetlands and has a large playground with a running track, soccer fields, ball diamond and a recently-built play structure.

Our school motto “Friendship and Learning” is apparent every day in an environment where we stress high expectations for student learning and the board character attributes of respect, trustworthiness, caring, integrity, cooperation, honesty, humour and responsibility. Madoc Township Public School is also a Healthy Active School Community and daily physical activity, school sports and the encouragement of healthy eating habits are part of each school day. Our emphasis on the arts, with all students receiving an excellent music program featuring instruction on the ukulele for students from grade 3 to 6, as well as our strong French program, rounds out an outstanding learning experience at Madoc Township Public School.

Pink Shirt Day at MTPS

alt alt

The hallways and classrooms were a sea of pink on Tuesday, April 16th at Madoc Township Public School! Originally a response to the teasing and taunting of a student who wore a pink shirt to school at a Nova Scotia high school, Pink Shirt Day has spread across Canada and has become a way for students to express their acceptance of diversity and rejection of bullying.

The grade 5/6 class at MTPS took on the project of organizing our school-wide Pink Shirt Day, making construction paper pink shirts with anti-bullying slogans, sharing information about responses to bullying over the announcements and dyeing shirts pink for students who didn’t already own their own.

It was a great way to raise awareness about the need for respectful interactions with everybody and to take a stand against bullying actions and words!

James Hill at MTPS

Thanks to grants from Blue Skies in the community and an arts subsidy from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, both Madoc Township School and Madoc Public School were able to welcome renowned ukulele player and composer James Hill on April 10th.

James played concerts at both schools, worked with students and also with a group of music teachers from nearby schools. Students at Madoc Township were eagerly anticipating the concert and workshop from the moment they heard that it had been booked. MTPS students from grades 3

Pedal for Hope

This year, our school will be participating as a stop in the Pedal for Hope, a fundraising bicycle ride organized by Cops for Cancer.  The team will be cycling throughout the region and Madoc Township Public School will be the first stop in the area.

We are in the beginning stages of our planning for this event, but we do know that the riders will be coming to our school on Monday, April 29th at 8:30 am.  They will cycle past the school and then join us for an assembly in the gym.  The assembly will consist of an explanation of the Pedal for Hope ride, a short video, the presentation of our school donation and a fun activity for the students.

The Spirit Club will be managing our fundraising event and gym activity, so stay tuned for details!
