School Photo

Kente Public School, “The place from which to go forward,” is a rural school located near the village of Ameliasburgh in Prince Edward County, in a very spacious country setting.  It serves 281 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.  School programs focus on character education, literacy and numeracy in a safe and healthy learning environment.

Kente Public School has an automated library resource centre, a gymnasium, three play fields, computer labs and a multi-purpose room. Students are educated to become confident, responsible citizens. At Kente PS, activities that show caring and celebrate learning include: Terrific Kids assemblies, STAR reading, sports tournaments, instrumental music for our intermediate students and book fairs.  Kente Public School is a Healthy Active School Community.  Students, staff and a very active parent group support charities such as the Terry Fox Foundation, UNICEF, and Christmas Sharing Program.

Kente PS students proceed to Grades 9 at a secondary school in Prince Edward County, Belleville or Trenton.

Tree of Life Sculpture

alt

It is with great pride that we introduce our Celebration of Life sculpture.  Thank you to Peta Hall (Peta Hall Porcelain Pottery Gallery) and Bruce Milan (Island Forge Gallery).  The tree is the Tree of Life with its branches reaching upward to the sky.  The porcelain birds are fanciful, fun and spirited, the swallow in flight is the symbol of forgiveness.  The two ladybugs are symbols of love and protection.  We will enjoy it as a colourful celebration of life.

The sculpture is the final piece to our Memorial Garden (generously created and donated by Van Soelen Landscaping Ltd).  The next time you are visiting Kente take a few minutes to appreciate this beautiful and uplifting work of art.

A Beautiful Gift

altWhen Colin Courneya learned that Kente did not have a podium he took action.  Over the holiday he worked with his grandfather, Dave Courneya, to design and build a podium that will grace the stage and the library at Kente.  It is beautifully constructed, made of solid oak with a fine finish.  The podium even has wheels so it is easy to transport with a matching gavel to help capture everyone's attention! It is the very podium we will use for Colin's Grade 8 graduation in June. Thank you to Colin and his grandfather for such a beautiful gift to Kente.  The school will use the podium with pride for many years to come!
