Welcome to CHSS!

School PhotoCome and Catch the Spirit at Centre Hastings Secondary School (CHSS)! Our school focus is to provide an excellent education to all students of our community and to prepare them to meet the challenges of a changing world through innovation and creativity. Our teaching staff work diligently to meet the needs of each student and to create a supportive and positive learning environment for all students. Over the past 3 years, our school's literacy test success rate has paralleled the board's (83%) and our math test scores have been consistently higher than both the board and the province!  This community school is known for its warm welcome and its ability to support students in achieving their goals.

Nail Art Catches The Eyes Of Our Centurions

alt

During this month, Centre Hastings’ Hairstyling and Aesthetics program worked on an interesting and creative project: nail art! After either researching a design or creating their own, the students painted another classmate’s nails. It was a definite success with many detailed designs such as animal stripes, watermelon, panda bears, ladybugs, paw prints, and poke dots brightening up the nails of our centurions.  Keep up the great work ladies!

Course Selection time, Centurions!

This past week, and over the next few weeks, Guidance is hosting Course Selections for designated classes in labs throughout the school.  As Centre Hastings prides itself in being rich with a variety of elective course offerings to pique the interests of our amazingly diverse students, students are encouraged to look over selections ahead of time so that they can easily choose courses based on graduation requirements outlined in their 2012-2013 course booklets (and 'online' in the article below), and on those subjects that most intrigue them.

If any students have questions about what is needed/not needed for university, college and apprenticeship programs, they are encouraged to make a guidance appointment with either Mrs. Bonter or Mr. Thompson for clarification.  Our knowledgable guidance staff are experts at informing you on what courses are needed, what courses will add 'balance' to your timetables next year, and provide information on courses you may not even know about!

Course Selections

Over the past few weeks, students have been picking the courses that they will be taking next year. Decisions about what courses will be running in 2012-13 are made based on course selections, so plan course selections wisely, Centurions!

Here is an online version of course selections, just in case you want review and replan what you are interested in...
