Guidance Department Overview

The Guidance and Career education program is a vital part of Bayside’s total program and involves the efforts of all staff members. The primary Guidance and Career Education policy for students in Grades 1 to 12 is “Choices Into Action”. It is a comprehensive program highlighting three areas of learning: student, interpersonal, and career development. Its basic objective is for students to learn to make informed and appropriate choices to ensure their successful transition from elementary to secondary school and from secondary school to further education, training and the workplace. Through our program, students are given opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills that they need in order to:
· Live and work cooperatively and productively
· Set goals and monitor progress
· Carry out their social responsibilities

The program is delivered through a variety of means including:
· Classroom instruction
· Orientation and exit programs
· Development of a path to graduation using web applications
· Career exploration activities
· Individual and short term counseling

At Bayside, the Guidance Office supports this policy by providing students, parents, guardians, and educators with basic information about resources that may be of assistance in these transitions. We have a Child and Youth Counsellor available to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. We also have other community members who support our services. We hope you find the web links we’ve provided helpful. Please call the Guidance Office if you have questions or would like to book an appointment.
